Hi: getting permission from a team to use their own low resolution logo on a wikipedia page set up to promote them and hockey in our province is too much work. Copyright

Hello Yann,

First of all, I would like to apologize for uploading forbidden files do to copyright. My intention is to simply show some audio and image examples of what I am trying to write about (computer generated music).

The files i´ve been trying to upload, I got it from public domains, sites and/or medias, such as Wikipedia, Educational web pages (like universities) or Youtube. I do not understand why am I breaking copyright standards.

Thanks for your attention, Greeting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amundo (talk • contribs)

More doodles

About half the page of Commons:Deletion requests/2015/09/14 is more of that doodle art by students as you closed in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Swishesh. There are a few still to go around that first one you closed. Subsequently by seeing all the students, it became apparent that the teacher is at College of Engineering - University of Cincinnati and assigned the students to upload their homework to Commons. All the images are now uploaded to Wikipedia (!) and attached to an article pending review; he seems to think his student's work and his class worthy of a stand alone article. The whole thing seems more promotional than educational. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:40, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

PS: All the ones with the "request to reconsider" such as Commons:Deletion requests/File:BuschleKG 1-1.png are part of this series as well. I just didn't know they were all from the same class until after that user left the notes and I read all about it. It appears the author of the article is the teacher of the class, etc. etc. Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:44, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi, It seems the article is going to stay, so these would be in scope. Well, that's not so bad. When I used to talk about Wikipedia in schools, people were very septic. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:19, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
They uploaded the images to Wikipedia for the article, no? I looked at all of the ones in his gallery this AM and they were all 'pedia. That would make ours not needed. Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:22, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, these files are under a free license, so they should be on Commons, not on Wikipedia. So the Wikipedia versions should be deleted. Regards, Yann (talk) 17:24, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ellin Beltz: Hi,
Seeing that the files might be deleted, these users uploaded them on the English Wikipedia. I think you should go slow on the deletion requests. These files are in fact OK here. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:33, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The problem with these files besides being large doodle art, is that they were uploaded as class assignment work. If we start letting every class upload every assignment, pretty soon the entire system will be nothing but homework of varying qualities uploaded by students of part-time professors trying to prove the relevance of their topic. Few to none of these images was categorized; some of them seem of reasonable quality - but only if the building is identified. At least one of the students seems to have uploaded and image from a book or other source and claimed own work. Typical classroom. But seriously, this isn't the point of Commons; Commons is not the place to upload homework. I'm really surprised they're not just putting it on the university servers, that's why it looks promotional to me. Professor is putting up stuff about his class to be noticed in a perish-or-publish environment. I really don't think that's the scope of Commons, but won't be too bent if I'm told I'm wrong. I feel it is promotional/self-promotional and out of scope - because otherwise just upload it on their own university servers. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 21:33, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think we should wait for a week or two before nominating such files for deletion. If after that time, there are not used, then yes, I agree with you, there are out of scope. Actually, I am quite surprised that the article might be OK. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:38, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Evaluation of DR

Hi,

why you have delete this and other related files?--Juandev (talk) 09:15, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help in deletion of a page

Hello

I am working on Commons:WLA and have an issue. I have moved the main page of WLAf2014 to Commons:Wiki Loves Africa 2014. But the translations in various languages are still "attached" to the original page Commons:Wiki Loves Africa. How to "move" the translations so that they stay with the original page ? Anthere (talk)

After discussion with a translation Admin, the solution might be to start by deleting Commons:Wiki Loves Africa 2014. Can you do that please ? Anthere (talk) 18:20, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It is solved now. :-) Romaine (talk) 19:57, 15 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikitpok (talk • contribs)

@Tikitpok: Bonjour,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 15:55, 17 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I see that you deleted Xavier_vendrell.jpg as copyvio, and that another image of the same person was deleted some time ago - maybe the same photograph. I didn't see the image, but it might be copied from an official source to which Template:Attribution-gencat might apply. Can you check where has it been copied from? Cartoon Network logo copyright

Hi Yann. I think there might have been some confusion about this deletion request. According to the other DR I linked, the Cartoon Network logo "meets" the threshold of originality (i.e. it is subject to copyright). I just wanted to make sure that you interpreted me correctly - if you judged that it was not in fact above the TOO that's fine. BMacZero (talk) 16:45, 18 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Photo upload

Hello friend, for photos that i uploaded, one of them is my own work, i photographed it with my mobile camera, the other two aren't mine but i said what is the source of photos, and i refer that these two are from Facebook page and i wrote the name of the author as the name of page, i thought it would be ok if i uploaded it and said what is its source,but if it was not ok, i am sorry i didn't know , and for the photo that is my own work,فدره، why it is deleted although it is my own work,, thanks friend Kemo aj (talk) 17:56, 20 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Kemo aj: Hi,

Photo upload

Hi friend, if i want to upload a photo which mine, how i will prove its mine, and how i can protect it from being deleted, i uploaded 3 photos one of them was my own work and it was deleted, i assure you that i won't upload any photo without permission from the owner, but what about my own work, how i can prove it is mine, thanks Kemo aj (talk) 11:03, 21 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Kemo aj: Hi,
For File:فدره.JPG, the EXIF data says that the author is Alexander. You wrote yourself that the source of File:ناحية البهلولية.jpg and File:البهلولية.jpg is the news network Al-Bahluliyah on Facebook. If you have a permission for these files, please send it to COM:OTRS (in English), or COM:OTRS/ar (in Arabic), then the files can be restored. Nominated files for Deletion

Hi There,

It seems that you don't know every details of the uploaded files. I mean as you thought that the file is not own work of a person is not his/her own work in reality. How can you decide that? As you might know that where and what the person is working for. Just wrote this because some of (in fact all) my uploaded files are nominated for deletion because of the same reason that it not seems my own work. How can you decide that it is not my own work? I agree that one of them is screen capture, but some how I'm related to all those stuff what I've uploaded. As an assistant or as a partner. That means I have right to share it for the promotion of my team. And I think it's just you to nominate.

Hope to reply soon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhishek8150 (talk • contribs)

@Abhishek8150: Hi, It is quite obvious that the files you uploaded are not pictures taken by you. Please answer on Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Abhishek8150, not here if you have further comments. Thanks, Yann (talk) 12:50, 21 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Twitter screenshots

A screenshot of a twitter feed page would be copyrighted. But what about images like File:President Obama tweet to student Ahmed Mohamed.jpg? The text might be copyrights free, so is Obama's display pic given the US-Gov license. But there is something in the image which makes us realize that its a screenshot of twitter, like the fonts, retweet, favorite button, etc. So aren't such screenshots copyrighted? Just wanted second opinion. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:33, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks friend, for the photo which mine, فدره، yes it is true that the author is Alexander because i sent it from my computer device which i name it Alexander and i will send the prove to otrs, and for other two pictures i will work to get permission, thanks Kemo aj (talk) 11:49, 22 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Opinions are not facts

You closed Commons:Deletion requests/Template:PD-NYCGov on the basis of "No consensus to delete" when there was no substantial evidence to support its retention. The "conditions of use" are not linked, and what is quoted refers to "documents" and "State information". Here is the http://www1.nyc.gov/home/terms-of-use.page which says none of that. On the other hand http://council.nyc.gov/html/pr/photos.shtml clearly states: All official New York City Council photographs are available at no charge to the public for personal or non-commercial use. Such photographs may not be manipulated in any way and may not be used in commercial materials, advertisements, emails, products or promotions that in any way suggest approval or endorsement of a product or service by the Council or its Members or employees. Any use or reprinting of Council photographs must use the following credit language: “Official NYC Council Photo by William Alatriste.” There is no mention of "public domain" anywhere, that I can find. Secondarywaltz (talk) 13:55, 23 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Secondarywaltz: Hi,
I already answered to Magog about this. I don't see why you posted this here, but I am fine with the reopening of the DR. It seems it gets more opinions, which is good and necessary for the deletion of a template. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:35, 24 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I assumed, as being the administrator who closed the debate, that you would be interested in correcting a license tag which would allow pictures to be illegally uploaded to Commons. I reach out to you as someone who has more knowledge of procedures. Who else would I turn to? But the process continues. Secondarywaltz (talk) 15:18, 24 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Image deletion: Mike-giving-back03.jpg

This image, along with image "AZy1CSba.jpg" were my first contributions to Wikipedia commons. These two images were uploaded simultaneously and apparently were uploaded in the wrong manner. You know of any good download tools for the Google Art Project? Adam Cuerden (talk) 14:33, 25 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Adam Cuerden: Hi,
No sorry. Crisco uses several tools, but it is not so easy to get the files. Zhuyifei1999‎ has created a tool to get files from Gallica, and it would be great if a similar tool could be created to get files from GAP. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:26, 25 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just looked into it. The image requests to ggpht.com seem to have to authenticate to googleapis.com beforehand. And the majority of google search results on this matter are either "don't work anymore" or "search on Wikimedia Commons" (we should be proud of this) --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 03:04, 26 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I take issue with how you closed the deletion debate concerning the "Wow! Signal" picture. If you believe that Ehman's handwriting (which is more than just the text it conveys) doesn't reach the threshold necessary for copyright protection, then please at least state so, rather than making a remark about copyrighting aliens and not making it clear whether that's just a facetious aside or whether that's your actual motivation in keeping the image. -- Dissident (talk) 21:10, 26 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Import Flickr

Yann, would it be ok to reupload this version over the existing file as it is of better resolution and likely a better option for projects? It is the same image obviously. Also the tag needs to be changed to {{PD-UK-Unknown}} as it appears to be taken during his time at London (1914-19), it's PD and shouldn't be listed as CC-By for sure. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 17:54, 28 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Why did you remove my file?

There was one file that was questioned, but you & your friends removed all 75 of my files, Why? As some sort of punishment? Some of those files have been there since 2007. Now, if I want to get the files un-deleted you guys are forcing me to "prove" that I own them. Files do not have "birth certificates." It is by MY word that counts. And you have refused to believe me. For me, there is something that is very wrong here. And it must be true because you & your friend remove from your talk pages what I have been writing. Thus, occulting your conduct. Chaos4tu (talk) 10:08, 29 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

--Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:50, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Christian Ferrer: Bonjour,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 12:54, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok merci, cordialement --Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:55, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

--Christian Ferrer (talk) 19:43, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

J'ai trouvé : {{cc-zero}}{{PD-scan|PD-old-70}}{{PD-1923}} est adéquate. --Christian Ferrer (talk) 19:49, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@The Titou: Bonjour,
--Titou (talk) 04:30, 29 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@The Titou: Bonjour,

A file with this name already exists; please check the existing file if you are not sure whether you want to change it. Please choose another filename, unless you are uploading a technically improved version of the same file. Do not overwrite an image with a different one of the same topic (see file naming).

A file identical to this file (File:N4-acetylcytosine2.svg) has previously been deleted. You should check that file's deletion history before proceeding to re-upload it.

Bonne soirée et encore merci de ton aide - --Titou (talk) 18:40, 29 September 2015 (UTC) PS: "You should check that file's deletion history before proceeding to re-upload it.", ça veut dire quoi ????Reply[reply]

--Titou (talk) 05:44, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@The Titou: Bonjour, C'est fait. Yann (talk) 12:59, 1 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Christian Ferrer: Salut,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 13:32, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Salut, rien. --Christian Ferrer (talk) 16:30, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Request kind attention towards PD Images taken before 1955

Sir, the following Images taken between 1930s and 1947 in India when the subjects first rose to office in British India and later in independent India (In 1947) have been wrongly deleted.These images are clearly PD-India and legitimately old enough (more than 74 years old) to be undeleted and kept.

Uploading Images on Wikipedia

Hello

Thanks for the notification - I honestly say I don't know what the copyright rules on Wikipedia are. I think the best thing to do is quit uploading images, although I would like to know how to do it right.

I would be grateful if you would have sent me a link to simple and specific guidelines for sharing images on Wiki.

My username is Busbygoofy93 talk 15:34, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Busbygoofy93: Hi,
It is quite simple: only upload images created by yourself. Otherwise, for all content previously published elsewhere, a formal written permission is needed. Please see COM:OTRS for the procedure. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:36, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Upload direct ?

Copyright Issues for Ben_AZH9

I suppose I'm reaching a point of frustration and bewilderment here. I have sent Wikimedia Commons evidence of permission beginning in late 2013, the e-mails have continually been ignored and the pictures I've uploaded with the evidence of permission have been deleted anyways.

Would you like me to re-send you these e-mails?

@Ben AZH9: Hi,
There wasn't any answer to the last mail from OTRS. We don't have a permission for a free license. The copyright owner needs to send a copy of Commons:OTRS#Declaration of consent for all enquiries with the list of files. Sorry to insist, but this is to protect the rights of the creator. Understanding

Hi. Everything is now clear to me about adding photos to wikimedia commons. I am a little bit busy, so I don't have a much time to take a photos of the stones, but I will be adding a lot of my own work here. That Tirolite you deleted was a photo of the one of my stones form my collection. The foto wasn't taken by me, but I think, when it's my stone I have a rights to this photo? Am I right? Everything about that photos you deleted is clear, I just wanted to tell you, I saw some photos on commons and there were a links under them, so i thought it is that simple, you just download photo, put a Link the Autor and everything is OK. Again I am very sorry. Have a nice day. GeologMax — Preceding unsigned comment added by GeologMax (talk • contribs) 21:18, 19 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Images warning

Hey Yann,

Hope you're well. I noticed you recently took down one of the images I uploaded onto the Wikipedia page for Ricky Dillon's song: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BEAT_(Ricky_Dillon_song)

I acknowledge that I've made this mistake a few times, however, I want you to know that I'm still learning what technically qualifies under Wikipedia's guidelines. My question is, how does something like this get away with being uploaded, while a lot of my images (including cover art), continue to get deleted? Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Thank you. My user is CMCreator900 — Preceding unsigned comment added by CMCreator900 (talk • contribs)

@CMCreator900: Hi,

@CMCreator900: If you want to upload cover arts, you may upload them instead to other Wikimedia projects that can receive fair use content and supports local uploads (such as en.wikipedia). However, you need to include a fair use rationale to the file you will upload.
Well, the article that have a cover art image that you said that get away from being deleted, the image is uploaded on en.wikipedia, not on Commons. Also, the uploader of it added a fair use rationale. So that cover art image can be used, but only in a certain article (as it is fair use). So, Commons don't accept non-free content, but some other projects can. Pokéfan95 (talk) 10:01, 20 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Code issues in User:Yann/common.js

Hi Yann, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Yann/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 3 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

Request to delete Merial offices image

Bonjour Yann, the building is indeed recent. So my photograph should doubtless be deleted. Personally I find architects' interpretation of copyright law abusive. I don't like the idea of my everyday public environment being privatised. Hopefully that will change one day. If you look up other images by Art Grafix you will find other recent buildings. I have submitted a delete request to see how it works. As you'll have understood I'm new to Wikimedia. But as my interest is in contemporary architecture, I fear my collaboration with Wikimedia will be at best truncated, at worst short-lived. With best wishes, Art Grafix. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Art Grafix (talk • contribs) 16:01, 21 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

File:Patch of the New York City Police Department.png was deleted erroneously, please undelete

You deleted this file because it was falsely claimed that it ostensibly violated "PD-NYCGov". However, the file did not use that template as its license so it was erroneous to delete it for violating a license it did not claim. Please undelete ASAP. Nougaret et Depardon

Bonjour,

@O.Taris: Bonjour,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 07:28, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello,

Can you explain me why? --Scoopfinder(d) 16:32, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Étiquettes de vin

Bonjour

Cdlt --JPS68 (talk) 16:47, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@JPS68: Bonjour,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 16:59, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Et je t'en remercie. Par contre la discussion continue avec Scoopfinder [5]. As-tu les mêmes souvenirs que moi ? --JPS68 (talk) 17:09, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This is neither nonsense nor vandalism. You are repeatedly adding a public domain licence tag that does not and cannot apply. The tag itself clearly states that details of any research carried out must be shown. There are no such details. No attempt has been made by anyone to ascertain the copyright status of the image. The image is one of a series of photographs taken while Alan was at Sherborne school (The full set has been seen at the school). As repeatedly stated, the Sherborne school archivist claims that they own the copyright on all photographs of all pupils taken while at the school. It is understood from her that the photographer died less than 70 years ago, so the image is definitely under copyright.

We have used (and are about to further use) a few of these images ourselves in one or two publications and in each case we have had to conform to the school's requirements with regard to copyright and attribution. The school has been so helpful to us, that unless, the image is removed, or you obtain permission to use it from the archivist of Sherborne school, I feel morally obliged to formally notify her of your violation of their copyright. 86.153.131.220 11:31, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@86.153.131.220: Can you say to us who is the photographer of the image? Also, the date of death doesn't affect whether this image will be in the public domain or not. It is the date when it is first published. It is published since 1923, and is more than 70 years ago and before 1945, so it is in the public domain. Please read first the text in the public domain tag. Poké95 11:41, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not the case. Here in the UK, copyright subsists for the life of the photographer plus 70 years. So if (for example) the photographer died in (say) 1965, then copyright subsists in the image until 2035.[1] The 70 years from the end of the year of first publication (not date of publication as you claim) only applies if the photographer really is unknown (and the act does require reasonable attempts to ascertain who the creator was). Section 12 paragraph 4 of the act goes on to state that an image where the creator was previously unknown is copyright if the creator is subsequently identified (and consequently a copyvio will have occurred). The date 1923 or 1945 does not appear in the relevant parts of the act anywhere. Regardless: I would be interested to see your evidence that a privately shot school photograph would have been 'published' before 1945, bearing in mind that the subject was completely unknown until 1973.
I did read the text in the public domain tag. Perhaps you should do the same. I am now sick and tired of pointing out that the tag (and by implication the CDPA) demands evidence of attempts to determine the originator of the image. I have repeatedly pointed out that no such evidence exists. 86.153.131.220 17:23, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi, First never removed a license, if there is a concern, you can bring this up in COM:VPC. Removing the license is vandalism. Second, as Pokéfan explained above, this license is valid until you prove it otherwise. This was discussed in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Alan Turing Aged 16.jpg. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:50, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Since Pokéfan's understanding is wrong, the license is not valid. All anyone has to do is contact Sherborne school, and I'm sure that they will happily advise you of the copyright status. I very much doubt that a defence of a copyright violation on the grounds that, "the image is public domain because some unrelated third party told us who did own the copyright but we couldn't be bothered to follow it up'" is going to fly very far. In fact, I can guarantee that it won't. I'm afraid you are wrong. You are not ever entitled to assume that an image is in the public domain - especially when you have been provided information that someone is claiming copyright. It is not my responsibility to prove anything as I am not the one publishing the image in violation of the copyright holder's rights. No one would have a copyright violation case against me as I have not used this image for anything. As the entity using the image (and against whom any copyright violation lawsuit would be filed), it is your responsibility to verify if their claim is extant. 86.153.131.220 17:23, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You are wrong on all points. Read the template again. Yann (talk) 17:52, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The provision of your tag cannot override the law. The only possibly relevant bit in the tag is, "A photograph, which has never previously been made available to the public (e.g. by publication or display at an exhibition) and which was taken more than 70 years ago (before 1st January 1945);". Please show me where this provision is in the CDPA? 86.153.131.220 18:15, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If I remember correctly, the new law is not retroactive, so what you say apply to pictures taken after the new law was enacted. Anyway, this was created by people who know quite a bit about copyright. If you don't agree, ask on COM:VPC. Until then...
Actually, the new law is retroactive because it replaces and incorporates the relevant provisions from all previous legislation. The older laws are no longer on the statute book. 86.153.131.220 18:32, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As I said above, this template was written in 2007 by people who know quite a bit about copyright. End of discussion. Yann (talk) 19:06, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@86.153.131.220: My point is not wrong. I am just following what the public domain tag says. Since you haven't given the name of the photographer, it will still remain unknown and date of publication will only apply. When does the photographer died? You said it is less than 70 years ago, but that is not an enough evidence to say the photograph is not in the public domain. If you will read again the public domain tag, you won't find the photographer must be dead atleast 70 years ago or something like that. To finish this issue, please give the name of the photographer, and his/her date of death. Poké95 00:49, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't know the name of the photographer. But Sherborne school will. You are duty bound to ask them. I (and the copyright lawyers) don't give a fig what your tag says. What matters is what Section 12 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 says. It says that the photographer must have been dead for at least 70 years or must be unknown (and be impossible to assertain). The first publication date only comes into play if the photographer genuinely cannot be ascertained. Since the image cannot have been published prior to 1973, if it was published in that year, then the copyright expiry would be 1st Jauary 2044 (though there is no evidence that it was). A similar image taken as part of the same shoot was published in 1973.
I also find it curious that the tag is a "UK Public Domain" tag. There is no such thing as UK law. Not one single act of Parliament applies to the whole UK. For the purposes of this image, any tag would have to be an "English Public Domain" tag. Copyright law is different in Scotland and different again in Northern Ireland. 86.153.131.220 08:46, 26 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

UndateableOne - images

Hello Yann, I'm still on a learning curve with images and Wikipedia, so please forgive me here. I thought everything was OK with these, but clearly not...

That said, quite a few of those images are actually mine, I took them, and say so in the respective information. Does this not count? How can anybody else give me written permission to use them? Do I really need to fill in one of those forms for every single image of my own I give myself permission to use? Is it not good enough just to say they are mine? If I must fill in a form for each of my own images I will do so, of course, and as soon as I work out what I need to do. This will also be a learning curve... I may try this now!

For the SCGroup page images, as I take my Wiki editing quite seriously and try to do it properly, I actually emailed the marketing and comms manager at SC Group, Mr Jamie Clarke, and in a conversation about my Wiki updates and use of images, he said they all images are SC Group owned and it should be clear as they'd not use images that were not their own to use on their website. But being efficient and answering emails even on a Sunday night, he's happy to sign them all off if that's what is required. That said, is there anyway we can do a blanket 'from SC Group website' or must they all be done individually?

Your answer for SCGroup will also be an answer for AMPV images as these were obtained via the same process (from RMMV/KMW)and will require the same solution.

Thank you --UndateableOne (talk) 18:47, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@UndateableOne: Hi,
There are 2 solutions: 1. the company adds a free license on its website, 2. they provide a permission via OTRS for a free license for the images hosted on Commons. The end result is the same: the images are available on the Internet under a free license. If the later solution is chosen, someone with the necessary authority (this depends of the company) has to send a mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the text here, and the list of images. Once the permission is sent, you can add the template {{OTRS pending}} to each image description, so the files won't be deleted for one month. This gives time to process the ticket, which can take some time, as there is always a backlog, and not enough volunteers. If nothing is done, the files will deleted after about a week, but they can be undeleted later. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:58, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Yann, probably mot necessary, but thought I'd let you know how my learning curve is progressing with these images. The SC Group images will be dealt with tomorrow (28th) as the required person at the company will send of the relevant form. One of the images was acquired by SC Group from a photographer, and while the bought the rights to use it, his name is still in the metadata, so I'm assuming this might be an issue. I'm going to let that file delete and replace it with another. I'm also having issues with the KMW-sourced images (mostly of AMPV); as while they are happy to tell me they are most definitely their images, they're not prepared to take the time out to support that. They consider Wikipedia a waste of time. I will allow these to delete and source and load correctly (I hope) suitable replacements. All the other images that are mine will be sorted in the correct way in about 48hrs - just a bit busy right now. If anything I've suggested is wrong, please do let me know. Thanks.

PS: Some other Wiki user just dived in with both feet and, apparently at random and without any 'talk', just deleted some of the SC Group images. I shall advise him/her of our interaction and suggest that in future he/she takes a leaf out of your book, and talks before arbitrarily taking action.--UndateableOne (talk) 20:33, 27 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Yann, why should this be deemed a "Nonsense request"? Both IPs are from a provider in South Korea. A troll would hardly first write in Korean language. So it's at least plausible that the request comes from one of the depicted women. In regard to the scenario, the legal situation is totally clear. In Czech republic, where the image has been shot, even taking such a shot requires permission. The photographer has already stated that he did not ask the depicted. So, we are hosting an illegally taken image and we know it. If you aren't sure about the authenticy of the request, you might have asked for a mail to OTRS. I've done that now.

Merci.--Rehtse (talk) 08:29, 29 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, I was going to open a deletion request about File:Satakunta Flight Fleet.svg, but page asks to contact the administrator who kept that file before re-nominating. I don't know if you've followed the FAF insignias, flags and pins lately, as sockpuppets of User:WPK~commonswiki (e.g. User:FAF Flags, User:Heraldia and User:FiCiW) have uploaded many inferior and misleading versions of those files. The file in question is also one. It is now a duplicate of File:Satakunnan Lennosto.svg, but the earlier versions are clearly not the squadron flag (see e.g. this image). So, is it possible to nominate it for deletion with these arguments? --Msaynevirta (talk) 14:59, 28 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"Recent changes patrol" rights is enable in sa.wikipedia or not

Hi ! @Yann: I have a question. Please tell me that, "Recent changes patrol" rights are enable in sa.wikipedia or not ? And how can I get those rights ? Thank you. NehalDaveND (talk) 09:08, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@NehalDaveND: Hello, I don't know if recent changes patrol is possible on sa.wikipedia, but most Wikipedias don't have recent changes patrol enabled. If it is not enabled, you can only patrol new pages. And to get those rights on sa.wikipedia, you must request it at that wiki. But since you said before on COM:RFR that they are not responding, you may ask instead at m:Steward requests/Permissions#Miscellaneous. But make sure you asked every admin at sa.wikipedia on their talk page and they didn't respond before asking a Steward. Thanks, Poké95 13:08, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply[reply]
