Hello thank you for your alert. It's true that there are some copyright infringements I have requested to delete but no one has done so. But most of the deleted pictures belong to me, meaning I own them. You participated in the 2015 Earth Wiki Contest. So check yourself before you block my account. If it is about the quality of the pictures, the opinion is yours. Thank--ABDO2008.DZ (talk) 12:49, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi,
- For undeletion, please see COM:UDR. Generally please upload the original pictures, not small versions. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:01, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Adryanvinicius123 (talk) 23:36, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
I have posted some pictures and informations in my city page on wikipedia, and you deleted all.
The page needs to be recycled, i did, i updated the page, i added new photos about my city, i added informations about the prefecture of my city, and you just deleted all my work, I need clarification. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adryanvinicius123 (talk • contribs) 23:55, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

- I deleted your pictures as they don't seem to be taken by you. If you have the permission from the photographer, please see COM:OTRS for the procedure. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:19, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi, I nominated this for deletion a while ago as being out of scope, but you denied this as the file was still in use on Wikidata. However, it hasn't been for several weeks now. Should I nominate it again? --Randykitty (talk) 07:56, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Warner Music Norway
Hi, all the photos I've uploaded to commons are by instructions from Warner Music Norway, seeing as I'm a trainee here. I might've put down the wrong license, but were told by the photographer and my co-workers that I were to treat the photos as if they were mine. Could you not have them deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beckyallis (talk • contribs) 09:24, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Beckyallis: Hi,
- A legal representative from Warner Music Norway will have to send a formal written permission for a free license. Please see COM:OTRS for the procedure. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:49, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Invitation to serve as a judge
I would like to have you as of one the judges of Commons:Wiki Loves Uniformed services (India). Wiki Loves Uniformed services (India) (WLUS) is a public photo competition on Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. With the inspiration drawn from Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM) and Wiki Loves Food (WLF), this is first iteration of its kind in 2017. For this year, the predominant aim of the the project is the improve the quality of images of different uniformed services of the Indian sub-continental region. We're having two streams of judges, subjective and qualitative. The subjective judges will look into the subject of the image, whom we're considering from services background and two qualitative judges, who would look into the various image parameters such as saturation, focus, lighting etc. The first filtration will be done by the coordinators, then goes a subjective analysis, followed by a qualitative one, which will be done by you (if you wish to serve) and Diego Delso (User:Poco a poco), then followed by fine filtration of images which tells us the best story. So would you like to help us. As the motto of WMF, this would be a volunteer work, but however, you will receive a "Certificate of Acknowledgement" and special gifts if possible. Please reply as soon as possible. --Regards, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 15:02, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Re: Copyright violations
Can you explain me how to upload correctly? Because most of pictures I have upload are my own work. Thanks. Igho (talk)
- Hi Igho,
- You need a formal written permission for a free license before uploading anything you didn't create yourself. Please see COM:OTRS for the procedure. Regards, Yann (talk) 20:51, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
I'll try to be careful the next time with future pictures
You contacted me in my talk page, you noticed me I violated copyright many times, those mistakes were made by uploading pictures of "mobile devices". My intention is not violating copyright, but I always fail when I upload some pictures. ViperSnake151 contacted me about a picture of the Galaxy S8 taken from official website, the work wasn't mine but I didn't think the use of those images is a violation, he explained me why it was considered a violation (you can check my talk page). My first uploads were license-less, so, they were deleted. It's the first time I have a notice in my talk page. Again, my intention is not violate the Commons guidelines, but my uploads of "mobile devices" ends being deleted for different reasons, "it's license-less, or it's copyrighted". In order to avoid mistakes like that, I'll try to check if the picture is valid (in case of taking a picture from Internet), and ask for help if necessary. Hello Yann, j'ai un remords : ce film me semblait être PS-UsGov, mais le catalogue NARA précise "Some or all of this material may be restricted by copyright or other intellectual property rights restrictions". D'avance merci. Cordialement, — Racconish ☎ 19:19, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Deleting images because of copyright errors
Hi Yann I posted my request some time ago but missed that you wanted to receive only messages in English an French, sorry about that. I repeat my question therefore in English: On 18 December 2016 you informed me that I uploaded images violating licenses. Thank you for informing me because that was of course not my intention. As I am not yet very experienced with Wikipedia I may have missed something. And as I uploaded a whole bunch together I did not see in time the first message by Ras67. It was not my intention to ignore your hints. As I can't check the licenses I indicated at the time, I don't know exactly what the error was. Maybe there was a problem with the images from the Hungarian Mint as they gave me permission to include these photos in Wikipedia but did not express clearly permission to release them as completely free content. I will check that with them. As for the images from Coin Invest Trust I made sure that they definitely agree to publish all their photos under by-nc-sa3.0 and 4.0 licenses. I think that should be fine, no? And I think that I don't need a written permision to include, do I (although I have it)? I would appreciate it very much if you came back to me briefly as I don't want to violate any Wikimedia procedure. Thank you very much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dupond2011 (talk • contribs)

Hi @Yann, The above map was retained in 2015 because it is in use in wiki pages. However the map is highly inaccurate. It has no external data or other source to back it up. The map creator and uploader of Mughal Historical Map.png left me message yesterday admitting so. Should this be renominated for deletion? Is there a wikimedia policy about not deleting images of no educational value or other issues if they are in use? Removing a problem image from multiple wiki pages is best done with a bot (or is there a commons tool). Thank you, Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 16:11, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

- Sorry, not from 1943. More likely 1878, by W. W. Hooper, a Colonel in British army who took many photographs of Madras famine. First clue: it's on the front cover of Late Victorian Holocausts. I will check the other famine of '43 images as well.
- No again. File:Bengal famine of 1943-3.jpg Look at the bottom of the image, you can see handwritten text " 1876-78 "

Bystander Selfie
Hello Yann, You seem to be positively involved in the “bystander selfie” discussion. The reason I ask is that in 2012 I created a page for Chas Gerretsen and uploaded an image taken in Santiago, Chile in 1974 by a bystander with Chas’s camera and his film; “Chas Gerretsen and Caribinero”. The image is kept in Chas’s archives in the Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam. The image was deleted today. Reason: the subject could not possibly have photographed himself. Chas tried to get in touch with some acquaintances from 43 years ago who possibly might have pushed the button on his camera that day, to no avail. I asked Chas if he had any other photos of himself during his working life (1967-1989) in the jungles of Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam and Chile or during his time in Hollywood. His reply was that he only had photos of himself taken by bystanders presently unknown to him. What is the Wiki Commons policy at the present? --Pfmoni (talk) 18:32, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Pfmoni,
- There is no clear policy, that's why I propose to create one. Submit the image for undeletion on COM:UDR, with the details. It may be undeleted. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:51, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
Permission
Dear Yann,
I received your message about permission for these images:
- File:Arturszolc.jpg (author: Piotr Ratajski)
- File:Soulburners koncert.jpg (author: Piotr Ratajski)
- File:Zdjecie-artur-szolc-ambasador-ink-lab.jpg (author: Piotr Ratajski)

- File:Soulburners2.jpg (author: Aneta Szolc)
- File:Robert Srzednicki, Krzysiek Wawrzak, Artur Szolc.jpg (author: Artur Szolc)
What can I do now to upload these images to my article? Artur Szolc and Aneta Szolc are my family members, Annalist was the my Brother Artur Szolc band (I'm writing about him this wikipedia article) and Piotr Ratajski is also our family member. I understand everything about permission but now I didn't see these images now because they are delate. Be so kind and help me. I'm new here. It is very complicated for me and too much information.

Hello, these following files had sended OTRS because of a missing information about origins of originals, it was nominated for deletion for bad submitted sources and for missing permission information, so I've send vectorization OTRS, but then I took up through research that they are actually also in PD-old-70 and PD-old-EU license.
Was war mein Fehler damals? Vielen Dank! Dupond2011

Dear Yann, thank you for the message. I realize the licence is very difficult to choose, that is why I ask for your help. I had sent many files, but after, when the author of the files, Juliusz Multarzynski, sent me the mail with the permissions for using the files. I already sent the mail to Zezwolenia - Polskie projekty Wikimedia <permissions-pl@wikimedia.org>, due to previous instructions. What else should I do then?
I can send the files to other address, but let me know, what should I do - I have the written permission of the author.

Which is the copyright violation? --Nicola (talk) 08:18, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Nicola,
- Could you please precise which file you are talking about? Thanks, Yann (talk) 10:34, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi Yann, you closed the undeletion review for this one as "not done : not deleted". You may have missed my previous note there in small print though, where I stated that I had undeleted this only for the sake of review. It was deleted before, so we still need to find out if this should permanently be deleted or if it can stay undeleted. De728631 (talk) 15:21, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Right. A DR is better anyway: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Erawan Shrine, Ratchaprasong, May 2015.jpg (Commons:Undeletion requests/Archive/2017-04#File:Erawan Shrine, Ratchaprasong, May 2015.jpg). Regards, Yann (talk) 17:46, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
Regarding File:SereneAir AP-BNA at Boeing Field, Nov 2016.jpg
Hello, I noticed that you deleted File:SereneAir AP-BNA at Boeing Field, Nov 2016.jpg. However, I had placed {{subst:OP}}
on the page because I had communicated with the photographer by e-mail; he told me which license to upload the photo under, and I provided him this link to complete. He then stated that he had completed that linked process. So I'm confused; did OTRS not get an e-mail from him granting permission? Regards — Sunnya343✈ (háblame • my work) 23:03, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Sunnya343,
- There was an OTRS pending tag since February 6th, and the queue is "only" about 50 days old. Do you have the ticket number? Regards, Yann (talk) 10:36, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- That is interesting. No sorry I do not have the ticket number, as I had interacted with the photographer outside of Commons and I'm not on the OTRS team. I thought that the photographer had completed the process here as he had told me. If I forwarded my e-mail conversation with him to OTRS, would that help them see if he had released his permission? — Sunnya343✈ (háblame • my work) 14:35, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Sunnya343,
- I did some research in OTRS, and I can't find any ticket related to this file or this author. The easiest way would that the author mentions a free license at the source. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:23, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for your time. I will try reaching out to the photographer again. — Sunnya343✈ (háblame • my work) 16:05, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Salut, Yann. You deleted this file following a speedy deletion request with the only rationale "The source website re-uploaded photos belonging to third parties and can't claim any copyright on them." The file was originally posted at Tistory which hosts user-generated content. I think without solid evidence like a link to another page where the file was posted earlier without a free licence, it should not have been deleted at all. At least the speedy deletion should have been converted to regular DRs to claim evidence for this alleged licence laundering like you did with other files from this uploader. So please consider restoring this file. De728631 (talk) 14:58, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi,
- OK, I restored the file and created a DR instead. I suspect all uploads by this user to be copyright violations, via license washing. Please see also Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Lovelovelove681. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:01, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Photo request copyright
The issue of copyright when one gives a camera to someone else to take a photo (usually of oneself) has been discussed I'm sure several times. Can you point me to where we have any guideline or FAQ on the issue? Is it a resolved question? -- Colin (talk) 19:53, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Colin,
- Please see Commons:Own work/Bystander selfie and Commons:Village pump/Proposals#Bystander selfie. It is quite noticeable that there is no legal argument against this proposal. A few people oppose it, and Jcb is the first of them, but without any valid argument. Most of the others are not Commons contributors. On the other side, Carl Lindberg, who is much more knowledgeable about copyright issues supports the proposal with a complete and detailed legal analysis. Revent was the only one with a legal argument, but he was also refuted by Carl. IMHO Jcb is just being disruptive there, and try to enforce his own version of Commons policies against everyone else. Missing Permission??
Hi there,
You tagged File:'15 Ford F-150 Crew Cab.jpg, File:'14-'15 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible.jpg and File:'05-'08 Toyota Corolla Laval Fire Department.jpg by Bull-Doser as "missing evidence of permission".
Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't see the basis for that. It appears to me that Bull-Doser clearly claims that they're his (her?) own work and has released them as public domain. Unless any of that's in dispute, I don't see the issue.
All the best, Ubcule (talk) 21:41, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ubcule,
- "All Rights Released." is a contradiction with the free license. In addition, these files are small and copied from Facebook. That's why a permission is needed, unless we get the original images. And please do not remove warnings on your own. If you disagree, please create a DR instead. Regards, Yann (talk) 00:03, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- (1) "All rights released" is entirely consistent with the free license. Perhaps you are confusing it with "all rights reserved", which means the complete opposite?
- (2) How did you find out they were on Facebook? There don't seem to be any matches on Google Images or TinEye. Are you sure that they weren't uploaded there after they were uploaded here a couple of years ago?
- I've never come across a case so far where an upload that Bull-Doser claimed as their "own work" could be shown not to be. (There were some problems with insufficient demonstration of permission for some uploads he made from other people, but those were all clearly labelled as being the work of someone else). As far as I'm aware, Bull-Doser has their own Facebook page, but even that doesn't prove where it was uploaded first.
- (3) Please note that it wasn't me who removed the warnings- it can be clearly seen from [1], [2] and [3] that this was done by Wikicology. If you disagree with these edits, you should take it up with him/her instead. Ubcule (talk) 12:18, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- Ubcule: Sorry about Released vs. Reserved, you are right. See the EXIF data with Facebook mark. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:23, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- Okay, I assume the "special instructions" are a proprietary Facebook tag? As I mentioned, Bull-Doser apparently uses Facebook and- I think- has uploaded some of his own stuff via there, but I've never come across anything to suggest that he's uploaded other people's images from there as "own work". Ubcule (talk) 12:42, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Review maybe
Yann would you consider reviewing your block of Lovelovelove681 (talk · contribs)? I have to say in your position I would have done exactly as you did however I also think it is possible that some of the files in the DR could be properly licensed (not all and I've added two I deleted speedily which I still think are probably copyvios). Equally if the people contributing to the source website would simply upload the files here they could be hosted without all this trouble. As to the block, I got an email from the user which looks like it explains one of the files licensing and I've posted on their talk page however actually dialogue from the user on the DR might help? If you aren't happy I assure you I would not mind at all - as I said I would have done the same as you. --Herby talk thyme 11:53, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Herbythyme,
- I think I already answered on the user's talk page. Yes, I would remove the block if we have some proof that the licenses are valid, i.e. with a mail to OTRS, or the original images. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:01, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- Yes thanks Yann - I saw your post after I posted here. Sorry to trouble you. --Herby talk thyme 12:02, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
Communication
Your comment "You make a lot of bad assumptions here, and any collection of bad idea doesn't make a good one. I suggest you stop doing anything like this." is unspecific, unconstructive and dismissive. Please don't communicate like that with me. If there are specific facts I've got wrong, then detail them. People (yourself included) are making assumptions because we have not been told the whole story about the photographs. Commons relies on honesty and disclosure, not pretence and covering up. It is not the end of the world to admit you made a mistake. -- Colin (talk) 16:47, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- Colin: Don't give me communication lesson. You are wrong on all points, no matter how you phrase it. Yann (talk) 16:50, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- If Mardetanha lent the camera to someone else to take some photos of their own choosing during the edit-a-thon, as they have stated earlier, then the photographer is the full copyright owner. You know this. I know this. Which part of that is "wrong on all points". -- Colin (talk) 18:03, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
Featured picture closing mistake
Check the votes on this nomination. You can clearly see the bot made a mistake. How can a vote of 5 support and 1 oppose lead to a nomination not succeeding? I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and say that you probably rushed this and didn't give it enough time to properly review the score before closing it as not featured, as ridiculous as that seems... -- PhilipTerryGraham (talk) 13:37, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
- PhilipTerryGraham: Yes, you need at least 7 support votes to succeed. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:16, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Missing permission instead of copyright violations
Hi Yann,
You have tagged 10 of my images as copyright violations and nominated them for deletion. All these photos were uploaded with with the permission of their owners. So could you please use "missing evidence of permission" tags instead of the deletion requests for all the images that you mentioned on my talk page? So I will have 7 days to get a proof that the author agreed to license the file under the given license. Otherwise the file can be deleted in a week without discussion. Have agreed? Alexandra Goncharik (talk)
- Yann, truly speaking, I doubt that we need "missing evidence of permission" tag here. Wikipedia Commons requires to show evidence of permission by either providing a link to a site with an explicit release under a free license or by sending a declaration of consent. My images were published on a site with an explicit release under a free license. As far as I understand, this website don't have to comply with all the requirements to a reliable source for Wikipedia articles. For example, a portrait of a person could be published in his/her Facebook, Flickr or Pinterest profile with a free license notice. All these websites are not reliable sources for Wikipedia, however they are OK as an evidence of permission. The same for archive.org that I used as a source. You can contact all copyright owners that I indicated on archive.org to be sure that they granted their permission. We have no signs of copyright infringement here. Please let me know how we can solve this issue and leave the images in Wikipedia Commons. Alexandra Goncharik (talk) 23:26, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Alexandra Goncharik,
- Anyone can upload anything under any name to Internet Archive. So IA is not a valid source for free content unless it can be demonstrated by another mean that it is in the public domain or under a free license. That's why a permission via OTRS is necessary. In addition you need a formal written permission when you upload any content created by somebody else. Yes, I could also use "missing evidence of permission", but the result is the same: you have a week to send a permission. Once it is done, please add {{OTRS pending}} in the description of each file. Please tell me if you need any help. Regards, Yann (talk) 23:59, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks for the explanation, Yann. So I will ask for the written permission to save these images.Alexandra Goncharik (talk) 15:04, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- Dear Yann, thank you again for the detailed instructions, they helped me a lot. I got the written permission for 8 images of 10 and added {{OTRS pending}} in the description of these 8 files. I will need a few more days to reach the copyright holder of the last 2 images. Please, let me know how to proceed. Should I just wait until somebody marks each "pending" photo as "OTRS received". Right? Best regards, Alexandra Goncharik (talk) 23:08, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- I see. Thanks for the explanation, Yann. So I will ask for the written permission to save these images.Alexandra Goncharik (talk) 15:04, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Renommages en cascade
Salut Yann,
- File:Jonathan Huberdeau WJC12 press conference.jpg => File:Nathan Beaulieu WJC12 press conference.jpg
- File:Quinton Howden WJC12 press conference.jpg => File:Jonathan Huberdeau WJC12 press conference.jpg
Pourrais-tu t'en charger?

Hi, you have decided to keep that photo, however there is a very similar version of it under that link, which is in use, so I don't see a point of actually keeping it. ArturSik (talk) 18:04, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi ArturSik,
- OK very similar. Now that we have it, deleting it would not save any place. Actually I find this crop slightly better (more space in the direction she is looking). Regards, Yann (talk) 20:29, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi, please be careful when to refer to and when not to refer to {{Grandfathered}}. In this case it obviously cannot be applied. The grandfathered guideline is not a blank permission to prevent deletion of any old upload. Jcb (talk) 22:02, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- Do you have any evidence that this map is not self-made? Yann (talk) 16:14, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- The base map seems scanned from a book. See e.g. the coastlines of Sweden showing that the way of printing in different colors was not yet so sophisticated as what you would see with the current equipment. The skulls and bones may well have been added by the uploader. I have seen many 'own work' claims where they uploader in fact made a DW. Jcb (talk) 16:22, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
Permission
Hi, can you tell me why you think there is "obviously" no permission required for pictures like this file and this one? According to the metadata the photographer (not the same as the one who uploaded this pic) even claims copyrights for this one and yet you decide it doesn't need permission. Ronn (talk) 15:50, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Ronn,
- These are very simple utilitarian objects, which are not under a copyright in most part of the world. So unless there is a real proof of a copyright, I don't think a permission is necessary. There was recently a similar case on COM:UDR with Italian furniture, and it was decided that a permission is not needed. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:54, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Copyright violations
Hi Yann, I saw your message on my talk page and I have some questions.. even if I uploaded lot of images on WikiCommons, they were often election maps and potraits of politicians, with a clear and simple copyright. Probably your warning was about the last logos that I uploaded and, about this, my question: is how can I know which copyright is the correct one? And why "PD-textlogo" and "trademarked" weren't correct? Thank you -- Nick.mon -- 11:57, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

- Well, the source link for La Loggia I think was this one from the official website of Italian Chamber of Deputies; otherwise it was my fault. Anyway thank for you explanation :) -- 12:47, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

Let me know, please,--Atomksk (talk) 10:01, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Atomksk,
- The files I deleted didn't have any permission. @Ankry: Do you know what's going on? Also Jcb deleted some files which were mentioned as copyright by Juliusz Moltarzynski, which is very unlikely, seeing the date (early 20th century). These could be restored if you provide some information. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:24, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
I have re-sent the written permission of the author, Juliusz Multarzynski, to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Please undelete and restore the files
@Ankry: Ankry, can you please help? I know there is a queue, but it really takes too much time and there is a misunderstanding. The permission is written by the author of the photos. --Atomksk (talk) 17:17, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Atomksk: You don't need to ping me on my own talk page. Ankry is an admin, so he can undelete the files when he validates the permission. Regards, Yann (talk) 22:53, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Atomksk: Tickets with attachements, without clickable links to files in permissions and especially if there is more than one ticket concerning single file are painful and require more time than I can spend for OTRS. I am sorry, but they need to be sorted out by somebody else. Ankry (talk) 05:49, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
@Ankry: The files were sent with the permission. Should I send it once again file by file? I understand it needs time, but who can help me? Can you as admin manage the process, please? Can anybody help? --Atomksk (talk) 08:36, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Atomksk: No idea. Ask me in June. Preferably on my talk page, not Yann's. Or ask another OTRS agent. Ankry (talk) 08:55, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
Aus der Tiefen and the Lewis image
Hi, Yann!! Hope all is well on your end. My purpose in contacting you now is in regards to the image File:HarryRLewis_Harvard_demonstrating_SHAPESHIFTER_1967or1968.jpg and I ask that you please read my comment on EEng's TP. Under copyright laws that were in effect before 1978, a work that was published without copyright notice fell into the public domain. As I explained at the user's TP, the image which is owned by Harry R. Lewis per the image upload information was actually published courtesy of Harry R. Lewis in the Harvard Magazine back in 1974, I believe. The image did not have any copyright notices on it, therefore it is considered a published work (See Kernal Records Oy v. Mosley,794 F. Supp.2d 1355, 1364 (S.D. Fla. 2011). Citing Getaped.com, Inc., the Eastern District of Arkansas found that photographs that were accessible online to others who could download them freely were published.) That image is in the public domain because it failed the requirements for copyright. Atsme 📞 02:49, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Atsme,
- That could very well be a reason to be in the public domain, but it is not what EEng says until now, and it is not the license mentioned in the file page. Regards, Yann (talk) 07:19, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

I was this picture's original photographer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yjfstorehouse (talk • contribs) 15:25, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Yjfstorehouse: Hi,
- Yes, but since it was previously published on Facebook, you need to send a permission, or better, upload the original picture on Commons. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:34, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Speedy del request vs. DEL request process vs. COM's AN
I never thought until now that AN is the quickest and most efficient way to handle a lot of images. However, how do I at discretion handle one image or multiple images? Some or many DEL request pages receive very little attention. --George Ho (talk) 21:24, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi George,
- There is no definitive answer. Do you know Help:VisualFileChange.js? Commons is severely understaffed, and we always have a huge backlog of copyright violations, detected and waiting to be deleted (less now that it used to be), or waiting to be detected. So yes, may DEL requests are not reviewed by anyone, except the admin closing it. Comparing to the English Wikipedia which has a similar traffic, we have around 5 times less admins, and many of them are not active. I saw recently that we have around 70,000 files copied from Facebook, and most of them are either copyvios or out of scope, or both. BTW you should candidate for adminship. Regards, Yann (talk) 23:13, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hmm... not just OTRS understaffed... but Commons too? I see some mentioning of "understaffed" and "backlog". I already raised the backlogging of OTRS at Meta-wiki. May I go to Village Pump or Meta-wiki to address the Commons backlogging? Thanks for giving me the admins offer, but... I think I must pass for now. I have a lot in my mind and must find ways to ease my activities here. --George Ho (talk) 00:39, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- Regarding the backlogging and understaffing, Commons and other projects are interdependent on each other. Seems that such issue will severely affect the projects because local wikis have been encouraging free content as always. --George Ho (talk) 00:57, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
Undeleted some files uploaded by Vpe (suite)
Bonjour Yann,
- La réglementation du Cncc, qui nous rappelle les principaux textes fondateurs ;
- Chapitre III : L’affichage du conseil-constitutionnel, qui nous fournit des indications sur la liberté de la presse en application de la Loi du 29 juillet 1881 ;
- l'article 15 suivant la Loi. Heureusement pour nous le texte est court et précise les modalités sur l'affichage et les dégradations ;
Cordialement, —— DePlusJean (talk) 16:48, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Bonjour DePlusJean,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 18:45, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Bonsoir Yann,
Cordialement, —— DePlusJean (talk) 17:15, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- Bonsoir Yann,
Salut.
Bonne journée.--Classiccardinal (talk) 05:20, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- Bonjour Yann,
- Bien à toi, --Benoît Prieur (d) 05:40, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 14:06, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
I'm working on getting copyright for my images!
Hi, Yann!
Thank you for notifying me that my message violate copyright. I will contact the owners (I work with them directly), and they will send permission via email.
If you could update my profile considering this update, that would be greatly appreciated! Solutiondropsam (Solutiondropsam) 14:51, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Solutiondropsam,
- The files can be restored when the permission is accepted. Regards, Yann (talk) 06:38, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
Copyright ownership
Dear Yann,
I' am writing to you concerning copyright ownership. Photos File:Linda Liepiņa.jpg, File:Atis-Zakatistovs.jpg with all the articles I've put into Wikipedia have been deleted, because I do not have the right to make copies. How can I get this right, or should I format Wiki articles somehow differently, because these photos have sources, they are authentic.
Yours Faithfully, Eduards776 — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 46.109.37.200 (talk) 22:00, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Eduards776: Hi,
- File:Linda Liepiņa.jpg is copied from Twitter, and File:Atis-Zakatistovs.jpg has a watermark. Please the copyright owners of these pictures to send a permission via COM:OTRS. Regards, Yann (talk) 06:37, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
File:David Epston.jpg
Cordialement, Fabrice Faimetti (talk) 17:23, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
- Bonjour Faimetti,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 17:26, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
Faimetti (talk) 07:03, 13 May 2017 (UTC)Merci Yann !
Triborg
Hi, Yann - I have a question about File:Triborg.png which says it was uploaded by the image owner. Can you tell me if permissions received the necessary information to clear this image of potential copyvio? A new user created the article Triborg (En WP) which is totally unsourced, and uses that particular image. Thanks in advance for your help. Atsme 📞 00:24, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Atsme,
- Yes, this image looks a bit suspicious to me. Please create a deletion request. Regards, Yann (talk) 14:02, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yann, I did as you advised. Question - if the image is being used on en.wikipedia, is it allowed to remain in light of a potential copyvio? I attempted to remove the image from the Triborg article, but an IP and a new user with 19 edits played the revert game. I don't have time for games. The article Mortal Combat X uses quite a few "fair use" images, so maybe that would be an alternate route for this one? Atsme 📞 15:19, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

- @Musikaf: Hi,
- Sorry, but no. Metadata of File:Antonino Fogliani.jpg shows that the author is Pietro Rocchetta Casadio, and it is tagged as "Foto Casadio © 2017". So please ask this person to send a permission via COM:OTRS. Regards, Yann (talk) 06:33, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
I'm very sorry, but I pay Casadio for this photos and I have the permission to use this without other steps... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musikaf (talk • contribs) 08:22, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

- A formal written permission is needed for any content when the uploader is not the author. Thanks, Yann (talk) 08:31, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Delete request for ABC 7 News Crew
The image in question was captured personally by me. I do not know what you mean when you say "It was copied fro Facebook". Could you please be clear? I can upload it to Flickr and provide proper rights if that's what you mean. Please get back to me on this ASAP.
This is the request I'm talking about: Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Abc7nyc.jpg --Deadly437 (talk) 05:10, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Deadly437,
- The EXIF data shows that it is copied from Facebook (FBMD* is added by Facebook). Please upload the original file, or send a permission via COM:OTRS, as for any content previously published elsewhere. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:40, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- I have sent an email to OTRS releasing the copyright. For your reference, this is the ticket number: #2017051510022087. For a temporary time I have a placeholder image of a lower resolution. When my request is approved, I will restore my previous image. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deadly437 (talk • contribs) 23:09, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
Modernrocker4
Hello, Why did you delete my pic? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Modernrocker4 (talk • contribs) 13:37, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Modernrocker4: Hi,
- Because 1. You didn't answer in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Modernrocker4; 2. These are small files without EXIF data. 3. At least 2 of them are copyright violations: File:YUSC.jpg, File:Maxcement.jpg.
- Please get a permission from the copyright owner before uploading files. Then send the permission as explained on COM:OTRS.
- For your own pictures, upload the original unmodified images with complete EXIF data. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:34, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
New account wants to upload a new version
I've encouraged the author of File:Matterhorn sunset 2016 (Unsplash).jpg to join Commons and he's willing to upload a higher resolution / higher quality version of the file. He's created an account User:SamuelFerrara but when he goes to the page is says "You cannot overwrite this file". Is this because their account is too new? Is there a way to give them permission, or do they have to simply make other edits for a while until their account matures? What's the rule? -- Colin (talk) 21:08, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, Yes, new account can't overload files. The account needs to be autoconfirmed to do so. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:28, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
Why you deleted good image? Even in your uploads easy to find much worse photos... /St1995 22:57, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
:-) Ruthven (msg) 10:58, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- Bonjour,
Cordialement, Yann (talk) 14:13, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
Copyrighted material without permission
Hello,
I don't think you saw my notification about some pictures that should have been deleted, since the material is copyrighted and the uploader doesn't know if this could be released under a free license since the photographer is unknown.
