These photos are old, yes, but I own their originals, they are conserved in my family, they are photos of my father in youth and other my parents. They belong to me as the successor of my parents, I would like to publish them on Wiki pages. So please don`t delete them. Yann You have categorized my pics as copyright violations when you do not have any idea what you are talking about. All of our pics we have uploaded are our and we have thousands over 20 years of covering auto racing. Please stay away from our pics because you obviously don't know who I am or anything about the pics I've uploaded. I suggest you ask questions in the future before deleting pics. First I advise you to get a low profile. It is quite obvious that you are not the author of the files you uploaded. Uploading photos to Farshid Moussavi's wikipedia

Good afternoon,

As the studio manager of FMA, I am asked by Farshid Moussavi herself to regularly update the photo selection on her page. I did not realise this was not allowed as I am fairly new to the company but i was under the impression that the previous manager used to do so also but without any issues.

Please let me know if there is a way this can be rectified. I always get permission the photographer and email the permission letters to the relevant people.

Response to concern about copyright

Hi Yann,

Did I miss something? Your note says that I have submitted copyrighted images, which doesn't seem relevant. We own the rights to all of the photos we've uploaded and added them to the wiki with full knowledge that this makes them available under creative commons. We certainly don't want to be in violation of the wiki rules; my understanding was that we could authorize the photos we own. I will go through and edit them to note that. However, they are, in fact, free for me to publish, yes? If you have any questions, or if I need to do something more specific to individual photos, please let me know.

C'est assez embêtant, les rénovations actuelles faites sur les cathédrales mettent en jeu des réfections données à des sculpteurs. Par exemple, toutes photographie de la cathédrale de Reims devrait être censurée à ce titre. De nombreuses statues ont été refaites, vers 1930, puis vers 1986 et la façade actuelle, plusieurs statues sont de Leandro Berra, artiste vivant. Oui, c'est très embêtant. Pour être certain qu'il n'y ait pas de droits sur les copies, il faudrait pouvoir comparer avec les originaux. Et dans ce cas, on n'a plus besoin d'avoir une photo des copies. Vous pouvez aussi importer les photos, et demander sur COM:VPC l'avis de contributeurs. This file comes from a reputed contributor, but who is now not active. I would not doubt his intention to release his picture under a free license.

Hi, If that were the case, nobody could close a DR. It is quite often that I give an opinion in a DR and I close it. Nothing unusual. More over, and that's the most important, there is no reason to delete them. I thought we could have a constructive discussion, and that's why I nominated my own files for deletion. But it seems I was wrong. We have had an interesting discussion, which demonstrated that there is no reason to delete them. But then Jcb deleted the files without understanding what this was about. You need a formal written permission from the photographer to upload images which are not your own works. And any file without proper permission is deleted as copyright violation unless proven otherwise. That's the standard procedure on Commons. If the photographer gives a permission, he has to send it following instructions on COM:OTRS, then the files can be restored once the permission is validated. Why am I receiving this message? Did you not get my document after I followed the stated procedure? Do you want me to delete the file and then upload it again?

Your message was very vague in terms of what can I do to correct the problem. Or is there nothing to do and I should just sit with my arms coprossed waitinfpg for the notice that my account is suspended.

Copyright violation warning

I am logged in now.

I received a warning from you that I have uploaded copyrighted material. The image has been deleted. I received a warning several days prior to this new one stating that I should provide proof that the image I uploaded has the release from its author which I sent by email on July 12th. Now I thought I followed the correct procedure emailing this document to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. But then I received your message stating that I have uploaded several files that are copyright violations.

I am unclear why this has happened. I do not wish for my account to be blocked if I followed (or so I thought) the instructions stated in the page. Please explain to me what exactly I am doing wrong?

Since instructions on this page are not clear to me, I wish to know how can I correct this.

It was answered on 16-04-2017 to provide a permission, or better, to change the license at the source. Please note that "okay to use on wikipedia" is not sufficient. Could you direct me to a specific resource that I can read about images that are provided by high profile people for the press? For example for Ashish Thakkar, I went to his company's website and got an image that is provided media use. This website is only a blank page right now. On Wikimedia Commons, only content with a free license is allowed. So "photos for the press and media" are not free. Small mistake

I saw that a nom made by Famberhorst had been closed with a typo that made it "not featured" when it in fact was featured. I fixed the typo but FPCBot had already gone through the motions of removing it from the list and marked it as 'not featured'. I've added the featured assessment manually to the file and placed it at Commons:Featured pictures/Places/Natural. I'm just not sure if this is enough or if there is something else I should do with it since I haven't been closing FPCs for very long yet. Do you think you could take a look at this and see if everything is ok? I pinged Famberhorst to let him know what's going on and explain why he didn't get a FP notification on his talk page. Why did you block me?

I'm just wondering why you blocked me, you seem to have vastly different rules than other reviewers. Lets start with you saying the Youtube CC license is a bogus license, it isn't, actually, according to reviewer who allowed File:Jake_Paul_2016.png through which didn't ask permission from Jake Paul who is a huge youtube star and also didn't throw away the fact the Youtube CC license was used (which isn't even a license, its actually a template Template:YouTube_CC-BY which has been featured in files that have been approved by different reviewers including Amitie_10g (on the image File:MadeInTYO.png), DAJF (on the image File:Lil_Uzi_Vert.png), Christian_Ferrer (on the image File:Young_Thug_screenshot.jpg) and various others. No permission was needed due to these people actually reading what was provided in the template. I have to ask you why you blocked me for doing this while you're clearly not following the standards set by other reviewers and excluding me. I am in no way using photo's illegally. Please help me if I am missing something. Declaring that I am under copyright violation over and over just isn't helpful to me, as I do not understand how this is so. I understand it may be frustrating to explain this to someone who isn't familiar with Wikipedia, I'm happy to fix what is necessary I just need to guidance. I emailed 2 documents stating that I am authorized to use the Jeff Garner photos when requested. In addition to that, the documentation states that the photographer, released rights to Jeff Garner. He is the owner. Hi! I was wondering what license File:Fragment Fasti Ostienses.jpg should be under. It looks to have been taken from this website. Their main page is pretty clear about people needing to request permission to use their images, however I didn't know if this image would be different since it's a very basic picture of a very old stone tablet (or at least what remains of it). Several weeks ago you deleted an image I uploaded Juan Carlos rojas.jpg . You stated I was incurring in copyright violations and I provided proof from the author of the image that he agreed to give his image for use in Wikipedia. I provided his release form.

I also followed the procedure to ask for undulation of this image.

But as of now, the image does not appear in Wikimedia Commons. I have not received any message from you or from Wikimedia on the matter. I saw an instruction that I should not upload this file again, but there is no news of the status of this image.

I would like to know what procedure should I follow to use this image for my article. I have the image, I have all the necessary data and a release form to prove that it is suited for use in Wikimedia Commons.

Bonjours, dans la galerie de Saint Jean-Baptiste au Béguinage (Bruxelles) vous avez téléchargé des photos d'un chemin de croix pictural. Cependant celui-ci ne se trouve pas dans l'église en question, je viens d'aller vérifier sur place et le chemin de croix est en platre (comme référencé dans un livre que je possède qui fait un inventaire complet de l'église et ne comporte pas de mentions d'un chemin de croix pictural

Hello, ce chemin de croix se trouve actuellement dans l'église Sainte Catherine qui est juste à côté. L'église Sainte Catherine a été longtemps fermée et a ré-ouvert récemment après rénovation, peut-être que ce chemin de croix avait été déplacé temporairement dans l'église Saint Jean-Baptiste au béguinage ? Quoiqu'il en soit j'ai été dans les deux églises tout à l'heure et dans Sainte Catherine j'ai pu prendre une photo d'une des stations. A part le fait que vos photos sont vraiment plus belles que la mienne, c'est bien ce même chemin de croix que j'ai pu photographier dans Sainte Catherine. Dans l'église Saint Jean Baptiste c'est un chemin de croix en platre. Je vais essayer de télécharger mes photos. Merci et cordialement.

note about uk photographs, at least pre-1923

FYI. I have found a solid reference that talks about UK photographs under the 1911 Copyright Act having copyright of 50 years post negative development, and not the 70+ years PMA as some try to apply. I am unsure how readily applicable it is to photographs published from 1923 as US copyright will have its variation. It definitely helps us with anything UK pre 1923, like with Commons:Deletion requests/File:Cecil M. I now have that specific section done s:The Copyright Act, 1911, annotated/Section 21. My reading is that the photographer is irrelevant, and it is the negative that is pertinent. Then it is 50 years flat! So as we are past 50 years from those images, that the next change comes in 1956 and the transition arrangements are specific s:Copyright Act, 1956 (United Kingdom)/Schedule 7 (point 2) in that they are still 50 years from date of photograph.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:52, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

No. The UK enacted the EU copyright directive on January 1, 1996, which restored copyright in those photographs to a 70pma term, regardless of what the term was before. Those are termed "revived copyrights" in that law, which has certain protections for existing exploitations, but those do not help us. You are correct that the term was 50 years from creation before that date, but a massive number of photographs had their copyright restored that day. And since that coincided with the URAA, most of those same photographs were restored in the U.S. as well. The only photographs where the 50 year term still applies are Crown Copyright photographs. Wouldn't that be nice (although we'd still have the 95-years-from-publication U.S. copyright to deal with). However... I'm guessing rage over the copyright law was not the driving force behind Brexit ;-) Usually most other laws are just left alone (and may be important to maintaining trade relations, etc.). But... yeah, would be nice to have some of their shorter terms back. (One copyright-related downside to Brexit is that the UK is more likely to keep their extremely low threshold of originality, instead of moving towards the EU "bear the imprint of the personality of the author" level, the way some EU decisions were forcing them to. How can I prove that we own the graphics and photos we used as well as not use promotional material/words?

Commons:Undeletion requests

Except for Yann, I had recently made two requests to COM:UDR Concerning some of the files of some portraits and vintage photographs, where some administrators had confirmed to me that the following files are absolutely in PD, but have not yet been restored, I would not want the request to be empty, so I can ask you to ask If you have time to restore the files and check their licenses, as you did today with the portrait of Francis Joseph, scrupulously analyzed by you please :) ??

Some of the administrator's views are very cautious about the files and the following copyright, but they seem to confirm that in the good faith of uploading the files required to be restored are all safe PD,, I hope you can find the time for the reset I also enjoy that you've been bothering me right now on the restored files eheheheheh thanks :) --87.14.89.32 16:02, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

Question on licensing

Hello Yann! I have a question in regards to licensing, and I want an admin's opinion before I contact the university. Western Kentucky University has a 'Media Kit' for its president, and states the following on its website:

The following information is publicly available for use by members of the press and has been provided by the WKU Office of Media Relations.

No, that's not sufficient for Commons. "publicly available for use by members of the press" is not a free license. We need a permission for any use by anyone. Regards, Yann (talk) 01:18, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
