Hello

Hi Yann,

Hope all is good You've left me couple of messages warning me that I'm violation copywrites and that I'm risking getting my account blocked I'm sorry I am new to the community and was trying to choose the correct options as I was uploading my files. Could you please help me on how to properly document the photos I upload if they were retrieved from the internet with no clear ownership?

I'm halting uploading further files till I figure this out Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amgadmuh (talk • contribs) 04:51, 4 September 2019 (UTC) (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mrika Nikqi

Hi there

I don’t agree that I have copied several times the file as suggested. I have even tried to upload original files from my PC. The last one is taken from mrikasevensummits.com which is a domain I registered and own. Mrika is my ex-student and with her father Arianit they are my best friends and I have been tasked to open a wiki page for them. I am trying to have first draft until they send me dhe edited text. So please remove the ban since that’s nit fair by your side. Kind Regards bimi98 — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 46.99.162.11 (talk) 19:45, 8 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Missing permission information

Hi Yann, you sent me a message stating that a picture I used may be lacking permission. Our public relations department commissioned the photo and told me this licence was correct. I am currently checking back with them so they can publish the photo under the correct licence. I will get back to you asap. File:L'Illustration, Jan-Jun 1917.pdf has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Featured pictures Wiki Loves Africa

Hello Yann. Anthere (talk) 22:44, 12 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Proposition

Hello Jcb and Yann, I am currently less present on Commons as I am involved in a time consuming mediation on another project. Nevertheless, I just read about the escalation of a tension between the two of you at ANU. Here is a proposition : as I have some experience in similar matters and if you are both willing, I can try to help you work out a way of resolving your issues. No commitment. You can walk out any time. If you both agree and accept it, I will inform ANU. Cheers, — Racconish💬 09:37, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Structured Data - computer-aided tagging

The development team is starting work on one of the last planned features for SDC v1.0, a lightweight tool to suggest depicts tags for images. I've published a project page for it, please have a look. I plan to share this page with everyone on Commons much more broadly in the coming days. The tool has been carefully designed to try to not increase any workload on Commons volunteers; for starters, it will be opt-in for auto-confirmed users only and will not generate any sort of backlog here on Commons. Additionally, the tool is highly privacy-minded for the contributors and publicly-minded for the third party being used, in this case Google. The implementation and usage notes contain more information about these and other potential concerns as a starting place. It's really important that the tool is implemented properly from the start, so feedback is welcome. Questions, comments, concerns are welcome on the talk page and I will get answers as quickly as possible as things come up. On the talk page you can also sign up to make sure you're a part of the feedback for designs and prototype testing. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 17:57, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm on your side as well, but I think Colin could be right here: right now it is looking like you are both heading for de-adminship under a cloud, and I don't think you'll find it so easy to get back. If you resign voluntarily before any deadminship discussion starts and take a break from adminship, you may avoid some nasty discussion. And after some time, I think you can succeed in a new RFA. Just a thought. You could bet on surviving the deadminship discussion, but that may be risky. I don't know what the best move for you is, but you should think about it. I wouldn't resign before the GMG's proposal vote ends though.. That might crush the support for that vote. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 18:36, 17 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Structured Data - blogs posted in Wikimedia Space

There are two separate blog entries for Structured Data on Commons posted to Wikimedia Space that are of interest:

  • Working with Structured Data on Commons: A Status Report, by Lucas Werkmeister, discusses some ways that editors can work with structured data. Topics include tools that have been written or modified for structured data, in addition to future plans for tools and querying services.
  • Structured Data on Commons - A Blog Series, written by me, is a five-part posting that covers the basics of the software and features that were built to make structured data happen. The series is meant to be friendly to those who may have some knowledge of Commons, but may not know much about the structured data project.
I hope these are informative and useful, comments and questions are welcome. All the blogs offer a comment feature, and you can log in with your Wikimedia account using oAuth. I look forward to seeing some posts over there. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:33, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

why our images are not publicly available?

Dear Yann, we tried several times to upload files from the informative campaign ALLATTARE RILASSATE by SaPeRiDoc that have been created by us, that are available at our italian website http://www.saperidoc.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/1 that has an acknowledgment of the creative licence commons attribution 4.0 international.

We are committed to sharing our work for better women and infant health: disseminating our tools for informative campaign on breastfeeding is crucial. So, why our files are not publicly available yet given the fact that we comply with all your requirements? Could you please suggest to us what more is needed to be done?

Thanks in advance

Hi. I just noticed that several of User:กสิณธร ราชโอรส's uploads were deleted in 2015 (some you deleted as copyvios, the rest via this deletion request). I understand the copyvio deletions were due to the user previously uploading the photos to Panoramio under a non-free licence? He has explicitly stated (here on Commons) that he is the same person as the Tsutomu RIkimi account on Google and Panoramio. Since Panoramio is no more, it wouldn't be possible to amend the licensing there. Shouldn't we just accept the user's claim in good faith? As for the deletion request, I missed the discussion, but I can't see why such an extremely prolific contributor, with over ten thousand uploads (via the WLM campaigns), would lie on these 26 items. --Paul_012 (talk) 08:33, 16 October 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

FAC of Bengal famine of 1943, data on Gandhi pic needed

Hello. I don't hang out on Commons because I know nothing about images, licenses, etc. I am strictly an English Wikipedia guy. Currently en:Bengal famine of 1943 is at FAC and I am really struggling with some image licensing problems. I am trying to get an appropriate image of Gandhi. My first try was File:Gandhi writing 1942.jpg but we are currently unable to nail down a URAA licensing rationale. That's OK, because now I have considerably higher hopes for File:Gandhi in Noakhali, 1946.jpg which you in fact uploaded. That image was apparently created in 1946 (I am guessing) but published in 1950 in File:Film Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya Samiti.jpg.... So... my question is this: which local Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya Samiti made it? Some of them didn't exist in 1950. Can you vouch for the place and date of its publication (as a film)? Thank you! You can reach me at my talkpage on the English Wikipedia. Millions of thanks!Lingzhi2 (talk) 12:24, 21 October 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

My pics deleted

Hi Yann, - I have had a warning about repeated violations of copyright. This is NOT the case. I think I uploaded one copyrighted pic of trump. ALL the others were ones that I took, or were pre 1950 and out of copyright in Australia. I have a lot of Scooter pictures, which have now been deleted.... these are all photos I took, and except for one, they are all scooters I own! Restored file deleted again in spite of OTRS permission

@Yann: You had restored above file after the discussion and proper OTRS process. See here. Refer to this discussion also. I do not understand why this page is created. Please look into it and do needful. thanks,--सुबोध कुलकर्णी (talk) 05:15, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The reason was because there was no confirmation from an OTRS agent for more than about 6 weeks. After some weeks such images automaticly fall into "please delete" categories. --JuTa 07:29, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Your best shot 2019

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

It's early 2020, which means it's time again to look back at photographs taken over the course of the past 12 months. As always, I'm curious – what would you consider your best shot of 2019 and why? I invite you to share your image and your thoughts in order to provide others with the opportunity to celebrate, learn, and enjoy:

Your best shot 2019

Thanks for all your effort in sharing your vision of the world with others under a free license!

Suggestion on grammar of license

Hi, Yann! Beautiful picture of Indian vultures on the English Wikipedia mainpage today. I see that English is not your first language; just as a friendly suggestion, I want to recommend the following (underlined) changes to the grammar of your License:

This file is not in the public domain. Therefore you are requested to use the following next to the image if you reuse this file: © Yann Forget / Wikimedia Commons / CC-BY-SA. If you want information on other conditions, or have further questions about the terms of licence, please contact me. If you use one of my pictures, I will appreciate it very much if you send me an email [or better: "If you use one of my pictures, please send me an email"]. The CC-BY-SA license is incompatible with Facebook's licensing terms. Therefore this file may not be uploaded to Facebook. This file is not in the public domain. Therefore you are requested to use the following next to the image if you reuse this file: © Yann Forget / Wikimedia Commons

"It is not allowed" is a common phrasing by English-as-a-second-language-speakers, but it is not used in native English. You could also say, "You are not allowed to upload this file to Facebook," though this sounds slightly less formal. A little more formal would be, "Therefore you do not have permission to upload this file to Facebook." But I think, "Therefore this file may not be uploaded to Facebook," is preferable.

"Therefore you are requested to use the following…" is fine, but this would sound better: "Please use the following…"

All the best. — the Man in Question (in question) 00:23, 7 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bonjour Yann,

Transferring files across Wikis

For time convenience, is that possible? I cannot save the files listed here, so I'd rather use them as non-free files on en Wiki. But uploading again is time consuming, so I thought there must be a gadget that can help. --Kailash29792 (talk) 17:52, 11 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi! I started this DR and the uploader seems to be a newbie that keeps editing the DR and remove some of the images I added in the DR. I think we need someone who speak French to have a look. Some of the files are duplicates and could be deleted as such. Other may be a copyvio depending on if uploader have copyright for the old family photos or not. Do you have time to have a look and either close the DR or make a comment? Don't forget to look in the edit history of the DR if you accept the challenge :-) --MGA73 (talk) 11:23, 18 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

GODL-India clarification

Hello, Yann. I hope you are doing all right. I had a question about GODL-India and I wondered if you could clarify the following for me. "Pictures taken by on-duty Indian Railway employees is under GODL-India because Indian Railways is under the Government of India's Ministry of Railway, and they are government employees." Is my deduction correct? Please let me know. Thank you!

That's what I suppose with the interpretation of GODL we have had. However I requested confirmation from a lawyer, which I never got. :( Regards, Yann (talk) 20:30, 9 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Copyright violation on pictures

Hi, I posted several pictures of my grandfather about 6-7 years ago, and apparently they were deleted last summer for copyright violation stating "obviously not own works". They were taken when my grandfather was in the military and he owned them in an album as memories of his time in the military. I then posted them on wikimedia by scanning them and printing them during a wikipedia assignment when I was in highschool. Hope you recover them.

@Bearlikescoke: Yes, most information is missing here. These were not taken by you, so you can't upload that as "own work". You must indicate that the author is your grandfather, the date they were taken, and you probably have to send a permission via email. Once you sent that permission, please ask Ymblanter, the admin who deleted them, or write a request on COM:UDR. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:48, 20 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I will only undelet at a request of an OTRS agent, so that they need to be contacted anyway.--Ymblanter (talk) 14:07, 20 March 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dan Henry Watches Article Quality

Hi,

Could you kindly check this article. I've tagged it as it reads like an advertisement, but I'm not sure if my critique goes far enough as I usually don't edit on Wikipedia.

But it seems to have obvious problems to me, and does not reflect the quality that Wikipedia should represent. 17:53, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Commons - Media Search

Greetings,

The Structured Data team is working on an alternative, image-focused prototype for media search on Commons. The prototype uses categories, structured data as well as wikitext from Commons, and Wikidata to find its results. The development team would like your feedback on the prototype, as they are looking to work to further enhance the search experience on Commons. If you have a moment, please look over the project page set up on Commons to find a link to the prototype and leave your feedback on the talk page. Thanks for your time, I'll be posting message similar to this one to other pages on Commons. The team is looking forward to reading what you think. Copyright violations

“Consider this your last warning. Continuing to upload copyright violations will result in your account being blocked.”

I received this message months ago and I didn’t even notice. I would like to understand how do you know the images I published have copyright restrictions? All images I ever posted were public on Google and didn’t specify any restrictions so in my understanding they were public and were only added by me to complete and add more details to some pages, I’m not using personal images in any case, only photos of famous people. So that’s confusing. You even removed a picture I posted of an ancestor of mine that I published... I’m not even entitled to add a phot of my ancestor? So instead of threatening to block me with patronizing “last warnings” instead message me and explain why I’m violating rules, because I didn’t even know I was doing that. Thanks and best regards. Afonsomsilva97 (talk) 14:23, 13 June 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Afonsomsilva97: Hi, "Public on Google" doesn't mean anything legally wise. All documents published here should be under a free license or in the public domain. All recent pictures have a copyright by default, even if there is no notice. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:23, 14 June 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Clarifying GODL-India

Hello, Yann. I hope you are doing all right. I don't see you often on IRC in the last many months. The last time we had a discussion, it was about GODL-India. But I still have some doubts. Could you please tell me, if the logos of IRCTC and Indian Railways qualify for GODL-India? That would be really helpful. On a side note, I hope you are taking proper care during this situation. Stay safe, and let me know if they qualify of GODL-India. Regards,

Hi, someone has uploaded a completely different image of a peacock here and it has made a nonsense of my use of the old file on my en-WP talk page. Category discussion warning

URAA-related deletion requests/restored has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Commons Photographers User Group: Meeting on September 26 and other stuff

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I've got a quick update for you, containing three items:

  • I’d like to invite you to our group’s second Virtual Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2020. As last time, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other better, share learnings, and connect in times of the global COVID-19 pandemic. If you'd like to present, please add your name and the proposed topic to the list on the talk page.
  • Also, I'd like to start a conversation about how we should be sharing responsibility for the user group going forward. I'd love to get some help when it comes to organizing things and I'm convinced that we can achieve more if a couple of people helped with coordinating stuff.
  • Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has asked me to spread the word about their latest survey: Universal Code of Conduct Survey. The goal is to create a safer environment on Wikimedia projects and the Foundation gathers feedback prior to coming up with a first draft.

Hope to see you at the Zoom meeting in September!

Commons - Media Sarch, new feedback round

Greetings,

I'm following up on a message from earlier in the year about the prototype development for Special:MediaSearch. Based on community feedback, the Structured Data team has developed some new features for Special:MediaSearch and are seeking another round of comments and discussions about the tool. Commons:Structured_data/Media_search is updated with details about the new features plus some other development information, and feedback is welcome on Commons talk:Structured_data/Media_search. Media Search works in any language, so the team would especially appreciate input around support for languages other than English. I look forward to reading about what you think. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:05, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Salut Yann, and a Happy New Year! I noticed that you listed this file for undeletion in 2021. However, we still don't know when it was published, so why should the 70 years copyright term have expired now? De728631 (talk) 14:55, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@De728631: Hi, I don't remember. FYI this image is [2]. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:36, 3 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok. I for one am reluctant to undelete the file, so let's see if anybody else gets to it. De728631 (talk) 22:49, 3 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
File:Bloody Saturday, Shanghai.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Bundesarchiv

All these images are authorised by the Bundesarchiv, Federal Archive of the Federal Republic of Germany. There is no doubt about the rights according to german law. --22:57, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

Well, why the Bundesarchiv would own the copyright of these works? It should be discussed, IMO. Yann (talk) 23:00, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Greetings

Hello @Yann: Happy New Year. I hope you're doing well. I was waiting for a long time since I came to know about you, that you're an amazing editor who has been working with Bollywood Hungama files. If you give me any information, that would be great. I'm learning license review, since 3 to 4 month, I have a failed LR see Commons:License_review/Requests/Archive/2020#C1K98V. I'm tirelessly working hard, trying to learn, but I'm stuck somewhere, don't know how and where to go. Only you can show me the path. I came up to you with lots of hope. Thanks for your consideration. --C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 09:19, 16 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@C1K98V: Thanks for your message and your work. Best hope and wishes for the future. Learning all the tricks of Commons takes time. Be patient, and you will succeed. I am not no active here lately, but there are other friendly contributors who might be able to help. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:37, 16 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Yann: Yes, I agree. I can't learn commons in a day or two. I'm ready to give time to my work. Yeah I'm patience, just got excited, to see you around. Sorry but I couldn't find any friendly contributors who are working with Bollywood Hungama files. So I came up to you, may be you could show me right path. It's not like I don't know anything about Bollywood Hungama.

* I just wanted to know Bollywood Hungama from the perspective of License Reviewer/Admin.?

* what important factor would License Reviewer/Admins keep in mind before and after they license review a Bollywood Hungama file.?

I assume if I find the answer of these two questions above, my doubt will be clear. So I have alot of hope from you. Thank you for your consideration. --C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 12:44, 16 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I was re-checking the American paintings in one of the things that I look at annually for undeletion and I can't believe I missed this a few years ago.

The Smithsonian https://americanart.si.edu/artwork/old-maids-window-21390 says this painting was part of the New Deal's Public Works of Art project. It's from circa 1933-1934, and should be tagged as {{PD-USGov-WPA}}. Abzeronow (talk) 21:45, 18 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Inviting you to join the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons!

Dear Yann,

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a draft policy (available in many languages). We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am perfectly aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 11:17, 22 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey Yann, you sent us a warning about a copyright violation of an image on the Archivportal-D Wiki-entry. I can´t see why it is a copyright violation because it´s Archivportal-D´s image and we configurated the copyright settings as CC by. Your most memorable shot 2020

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

Over the course of the past two years, we've been sharing pictures that have a special meaning with each other at the start of the new year. Today, I'm inviting you add your most memorable shot of 2020 to this page:

I hope you, your familiy, and your friends are well during these difficult times. I wish you all the best for 2021 and I can't wait to see what your most memorable shot of 2020 looks like.

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC

Hello Yann,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Next Commons Photographers meeting featuring large format photographer Ben Horne

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I'm happy to invite you to our next virtual meeting on Saturday, March 20, at the usual time. As I mentioned during our last get-together, I'd like to invite external guests every now and then, given that it seems good to expand our view and learn something from someone outside our community.

Our first external guest, Ben Horne, will talk about large format wilderness photography, followed by a question-and-answer session. Ben is maybe one of best known contemporary large format photographers in the United States. On his excursions to national parks, he shoots 8×10 film and talks about his adventures on his YouTube channel which has attracted more than 48,000 followers so far. He is YouTube's first, and longest active landscape photography vlogger and I'm thrilled that he has agreed to join our next meeting and talk about his experiences.

If you're interested in joining this meeting, please sign up on the page below:

Also, don't forget to post your question(s) prior to the meeting on the following page in order to ensure a good and fruitful question-and-answer session:

I'm very much looking forward to this event and I hope you'll be able to join.

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:31, 15 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Could you please explain...

On March 10, 2019, you deleted File:Sexy_librarian_look_(15022862928).jpg, File:The_Sexy_Librarian_Look_(3902980364).jpg and File:Sexy_librarian_(481593155).jpg. [3], [4], [5]

You left the same unhelpful explanation on all three discussions - delete per nom.

File:The Sexy Librarian Look (3902980364).jpg, and File:Sexy librarian (481593155).jpg had just two people leave opinions, my keep and the nominator, E4024's, implied delete. He added an explicit delete to File:The Sexy Librarian Look (3902980364).jpg, which, of course, doesn't count, because no one is allowed to not-vote twice.

File:Sexy librarian look (15022862928).jpg had 2 keeps, with only the implied delete of the nominator.

E4024's deletion justifications are not actually policy based.

So, could you either explain your closures, or reverse them? Thanks. Geo Swan (talk) 16:19, 7 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Geo Swan: Hi,
Delete per nomination means that the nomination is valid and correct. Personal images with a sexist title are clearly out of scope here. You can request undeletion here, but I would oppose them. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:03, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • @Geo Swan and Yann: I checked a random file and the reason for nomination was "Out of scope personal image." so I would expect that "delete per nom" means it was deleted because it was a personal image. Since it is taken from Flickr I would not call it a personal image unless of course you think that uploader on Commons and on Flickr is the same person.
Why bring in the argument of "a sexist title" now? The image is either in scope or not in scope. Files can be renamed if they have a bad title. I do not think that file names are a valid reason to delete. --MGA73 (talk) 11:43, 14 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Personal images here means images of random people, friends, etc. Whoever is the photographer doesn't matter. In addition, the title doesn't help to make it in scope, quite the opposite. But even with a neutral title, these images are out of scope for Commons. Regards, Yann (talk) 19:28, 16 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
File:Emmanuel Dubuisson 2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

Wiki Loves Africa

Contribute to Wiki Loves Africa and to how the world sees Africa!
Dear Yann

In the past, you contributed to the Wiki Loves Africa competition. This February, you have another opportunity to create beautiful photographs on the theme of "transportation" that could change how the world understands people and culture in your part of Africa. As with previous years, there are also many exciting cash prizes.

Wiki Loves Africa is an annual public contest where people across Africa can contribute media (photographs, video and audio) about their environment to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Images from the competition have helped millions learn more about Africa and see Africa more clearly from an African perspective. Overall, nearly 5000 people like you have contributed to this photo contest, and contributed 18,000 images about Africa.

When does it take place?

The 2020 competition will start on the 15th of February 2020 and close on 31st March 2020.

What should we contribute?

Pictures ! audios ! videos ! The theme for the 2020 contest is... Africa on the Move ! This theme encompasses a host of approaches and is intentionally open to interpretation. It encourages the submission of visual representations of movement or transportation, whether by path, road, sea air, by self-propelled, animal or mechanical means, or the historical or contemporary structures that have been created to facilitate movement or the transportation of people, goods, or animals.

In addition to the value your photos contribute to understanding and African visibility, there are several prizes on offer. The international prizes are:

  • 1st prize: US$1000
  • 2nd prize: US$800
  • 3rd prize: US$500

Additional categories are:

  • Culturally specific or traditional representations of transport or structures that facilitate transportation : US$500
  • Prize for best quality video: $500

Each winner will also receive a pack of goodies (proposed: a hat "I edit Wikipedia from Africa", a branded battery, stickers). Additional prizes will be available in some countries.

Warmest,

Anthere, for the Wiki Loves Africa Team

Deletion of pictures posted by me claiming violation of copyright

I saw that many of the photos I uploaded for Surabhi Lakshmi's page were brutally deleted and you gave me last warning. I am really shocked to see this. You claim to say that I have no rights for the pictures of Surabhi that I posted? Please understand that I am the person managing Surabhi Lakshmi's media profiles and I am responsible for the contents related to her. The website surabhilakshmi.com is managed by me, on behalf of Surabhi Lakshmi. Someone else posted wrong data which I verified with Surabhi directly and changed it. I used photos that were given to me by Surabhi directly. None of the other writers have that permission. The illegal data and photos are still remaining on your approved page!!! Now it is really shocking to see when you say that I will be blocked. This is so bad. What a world is this??

What do you need me to verify my position? 19:36, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
