Mass rollback needed[edit]
Some user mass tagged images for cropping when it isnt needed at all https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/DebbieUfedo could the changes be rolled back? --FMSky (talk) 08:28, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- @FMSky: while these may be bad edits, they are almost certainly not vandalism. And when reporting someone on a board like this, you should always notify them on their user talk page, which you didn't do. And I'm not immediately sure that all of them are "bad", though some certainly are. - Jmabel ! talk 21:10, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jmabel: I don't notify users of reports about them on this particular board, and I didn't put that in the header here, per en:WP:DENY. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 23:31, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- If the intent here were clearly vandalistic, I'd have no problem with that. This looks misguided, but quite possibly within the bounds of good faith. No objection to a mass rollback if someone thinks none (or almost none) of these are correct, but I'd suggest engaging this editor as a first step, not blocking them. - Jmabel ! talk 23:54, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jmabel: They stopped three months ago, so there may not be any point now, but I wrote to them anyway. The tool they used, FIST 1.1, is now 404 at https://fist.toolforge.org/fist/fist.php. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 00:10, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jeff G.: Ah, I hadn't even looked at dates on these. So there is no urgency. FMSky, would you be willing to look through, say, 25 of these and see whether it should really be a mass rollback or needs to be more selective? - Jmabel ! talk 00:48, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- Already did, most of them are completely useless. How would it even be possible to crop this and this any further..? --FMSky (talk) 00:56, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- @FMSky: Perhaps they want clear backgrounds, which are not possible with jpg. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:15, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

- There seem to be two requests here (in the original edits): cropping them, as noted, but also just using them as images in wikidata. Is there any merit in doing the second of these, even if no crop is needed? Does wikidata need these images (or any images) for the targeted items? AFAICS, the same editor has done just that already, simultaneously with the tags being added. Now before we jump to any conclusions, maybe this was just a failure in an automated tool and an editor who did the useful task of adding these for wikidata also left a trail of these (almost empty) tags behind, added silently by the tool? They might not have even noticed that was happening. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:53, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

- Not done. They seem to already have a global lock at this point, though they didn't at the time this was posted. No need to block locally if there is a global lock on the account. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 04:51, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

- @Jmabel No hope that he gets it, considering the answer he gave me in Ticket:2024011410003398. Thanks anyway, cheers, Mussklprozz (talk) 08:54, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Mussklprozz: since I don't have access to VRT, you are invoking evidence I cannot examine. Are you specifically asking me to extend the block, or just making a remark? - Jmabel ! talk 20:50, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Jmabel Take it as a remark. And thanks for your effort! :-) Mussklprozz (talk) 21:01, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

- Can you please be clear and specific about not posting the blog. I am new for this . Please make me understand in details Healthy Fibres (talk) 06:20, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Has been warned. I'd say we wait and see whether problematic activity continues. If someone thinks it's worth writing a more personal note on their user talk page to explain better what would be acceptable content, great; I suspect that as it is they'll just go away. - Jmabel ! talk
- @Healthy Fibres: I haven't looked at what you posted, but Commons is normally not the place for a blog, and certainly not a place for content that is intended to sell something. Yes, we would carry a notable (as in "probably would merit a Wikipedia article") blog, or historically interesting advertising (logos of famous companies, concert posters for notable bands) when there is no copyright issue with them, but that's very different from posting stuff for your own, non-notable business. Is that clear, or do you need further explanation? - Jmabel ! talk 07:40, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
